The US urged Haftar to stop the attack on Tripoli

The Libyan conflict has no military solution, said Secretary of state Mike Pompeo

The United States calls on units of the Libyan national army (NA) field Marshal Khalifa Haftar to stop immediately the attack on Tripoli. This is stated in the statement of Secretary of state Michael Pompeo, published on Sunday on the website of the state Department.

“The United States is deeply alarmed by the fighting near Tripoli. We have made it clear that we oppose the military offensive of Khalifa Haftar’s forces and urge to stop immediately military operations against the Libyan capital”, in the document says.

Pompeo stressed that the Libyan conflict has no military solution. “A political solution is the only way to unite the country and ensure security, stability and prosperity for all Libyans”, the statement said.

The Secretary of state also pointed out that “this unilateral military campaign against Tripoli threatens the lives of the civilian population and undermines the possibility of a better future for all Libyans”.
