The US to deploy 500 additional troops to Germany

This step marks Washington’s rejection of Trump’s announced reduction of the American contingent in Germany.

The United States will deploy 500 additional troops to Germany, Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin said during a visit to Berlin. This statement marked the rejection of the plan to withdraw from Germany about 12,000 thousand American troops, at one time proclaimed by the former US President Donald Trump.

“”We have stopped planning (the withdrawal),” Austin said at a joint news conference with German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer on Tuesday.

“”I think that the deployment of 500 troops additionally speaks to the level of our partnership and our commitment to NATO,” the Pentagon chief added.
