The US supports the demand of the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, to extend the arms embargo for Iran, said the US special envoy for Iran Brian Hook.
“We support the countries of the region in demanding that the UN extend the arms embargo, the embargo should be extended to stabilize the situation in the region,” the US special envoy said at a press conference in Riyadh, which was broadcast by the Saudi TV channel al-Ikhbariya.
In turn, the state Minister for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Adil al-Jubeir, who spoke at a press conference, also called on the international community to extend the arms embargo imposed on Iran.
Hook pointed out that the Iranian leadership rejects diplomatic ways and stabilization of the situation in Yemen, transferring weapons and missiles there. “Iran wants the war to go on without end,” the special envoy said.
According to him, since 2016, more than 400 missiles have been fired at the territory of Saudi Arabia from Yemen, which got there from Iran.
Hook stressed that the US supports the efforts of the UN special envoy and Saudi Arabia aimed at a cease-fire, the opening of the Sanaa airport, and the beginning of a comprehensive political process
