The US State Department is concerned about mass detentions of peaceful activists in Belarus

The US State Department expressed deep concern about the situation with the presidential elections in Belarus. The US Embassy in Belarus quoted the statement on this issue.

— We are deeply concerned about reports of mass protests and detentions of peaceful activists and journalists. We believe it is essential for the government to ensure a level playing field for everyone who wants to participate in the elections,” US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.

Recall that on Tuesday, July 14, in Minsk and other cities of Belarus, protests were held related to the refusal to register presidential candidates Viktor Babariko and Valery Tsepkalo, during which several hundred people were detained. The next day, the Central Election Commission had a long queue of people who wanted to file a complaint about its decision.
