The US Senate approved Gina Raimondo’s nomination for Commerce Secretary on Tuesday. The voting was broadcast on the website of the upper house of the legislature.

84 lawmakers supported it, and 15 senators voted against it.

Raimondo will be sworn in shortly. She is now the governor of Rhode Island, representing the Democratic Party. For many years, she was engaged in business in the field of investment.

On January 26, at a hearing before the committee, Raimondo said that the United States should take active measures to counter “unfair trade practices” on the part of the PRC and other countries. The candidate then promised, if approved by the minister, to use all means available to her to protect American telecommunications networks from the influence of China, including Huawei and ZTE.
