According to the newspaper, instead of the American leader, his wife Jill Biden can take part in the opening ceremony of the Games.

US President Joe Biden is not planning to make a trip to Japan on the occasion of the start of the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. This was reported on Sunday, citing sources, by the Yomiuri newspaper.

According to her, instead of the American president, his wife Jill Biden can go to Japan, who is supposed to take part in the opening ceremony of the Games and hold a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. Through the visit of the first lady of the United States to the country, the American authorities intend to demonstrate the importance of Tokyo for Washington, the newspaper emphasizes.

The last time the wife of an American president attended the Olympic Games was in 2012, when the then First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, attended the opening ceremony of the competition in London.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo were supposed to be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Due to the pandemic, the competitions were postponed for a year, now they will be held from July 23 to August 8.
