The US-led coalition began withdrawing troops from Syria

The US-led coalition announced the beginning of the withdrawal from Syria. The representative of the coalition, reporting on Friday, January 11, refused to disclose details of the timetable, specific territories and troop movements, citing security concerns.

Earlier, the media, citing a Pentagon spokesman said that the US began the withdrawal of military equipment from Syria.

The President of the United States Donald Trump at the end of December last year unexpectedly announced the immediate withdrawal from Syria of all the US troops, explaining that the victory over the jihadist group “Islamic state” allegedly already won. In protest of this decision, then the US Secretary of defense James Mattis resigned.

Later, Trump significantly adjusted his decision, saying that the withdrawal of troops from Syria will be carried out “cautiously” and “at a reasonable pace.”
