The US plans to send an official request to Canada for the extradition of the financial Director of the Chinese company Huawei Meng Wangzhou, according to the Canadian newspaper the Globe and Mail. The publication refers to the Canadian Ambassador to Washington David MacNaughton, who said that the request should be submitted before January 30. After that, the Canadian side will decide on extradition within 30 days. Even if the court approves the decision to expel Ms.
Wangzhou, she has the opportunity to appeal the decision, because of which extradition can be postponed for many months or even years, the newspaper said.
According to the Canadian Prosecutor’s office, the reason for the arrest of Huawei’s financial Director was a presentation in which Meng Wangzhou, according to the US authorities, “misled” her partners from HSBC Bank to avoid sanctions for trade with Iran. The case of Ms. Wangzhou will be heard on February 6.
