The US is considering the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Minsk

The US administration is considering all possible options for reaction in connection with the incident with the Ryanair plane in Belarus, including sanctions, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said at a briefing on Tuesday.

“It’s only been a few days, not that long. The president ordered his team, in close cooperation with the EU, other allies, and international organizations, to help ensure that the regime of (Belarusian President Alexander) Lukashenko is held accountable, including in the form of sanctions,” Psaki said. She was asked why the United States, unlike some other allied countries, has not yet taken any measures in connection with the landing of the plane in Minsk. She did not announce anything “until all the options are presented to the president.”
