The US is considering imposing sanctions against seven Belarusian officials

The sanctions may apply to individuals suspected of involvement in electoral fraud and violence against demonstrators.

The United States is considering imposing sanctions against seven Belarusian citizens who are believed in Washington to be involved in falsifying the results of the presidential election and violently suppressing peaceful demonstrations, a senior State Department official said on Tuesday.

According to the source, the state Department is developing a package of sanctions together with the Ministry of Finance.

We remind that the EU foreign Ministers recently agreed to impose sanctions on up to 20 high-ranking Belarusian officials suspected of rigging elections and suppressing protests. At some point, the list will probably include Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
