The US has told the UN Security Council that it is ready for talks with Iran

US Ambassador to the UN Kelly Craft sent a letter to the UN Security Council, in which she notified the readiness of the American side to negotiate with Iran without preconditions, to reduce tensions in the region.

As the diplomat noted, the US wants to prevent further threats to peace and stability from the Islamic Republic. At the same time, the Ambassador claims that the elimination of the Iranian General Qasem Suleimani is justified by article 51 of the UN Charter, which gives the state the right to self-defense. Kraft said that the US airstrikes on the Iraqi Shiite militia al-Hashd al-Shaabi on December 29 last year were conducted in response to a series of attacks by Iran and loyal formations on American units.

Earlier, the US military carried out an operation to kill Suleimani. Iran responded with a missile attack on Iraqi bases where American troops are stationed.
