The US has taken action against Iran’s leading shipping and aviation companies

The State Department has blacklisted companies for their role in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo announced measures against three Iranian companies linked to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as sanctions against eight companies involved in smuggling weapons from Iran to Yemen.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, its Chinese subsidiary E-Sail Shipping Company and Iran’s Mahan Air airlines were blacklisted under the decree on combating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

As Pompeo stressed, this measure should serve as a warning that cooperation with these companies can contribute to the development of Iranian programs in the field of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, including missile and nuclear technologies. A short delay is envisaged to give suppliers of humanitarian goods to Iran enough time to find alternative methods of delivery. The measures against Mahan Air take effect immediately.
