The United States has prepared a bill that included five types of sanctions against those who provide insurance services to ships engaged in the laying of the “Nord stream-2” gas pipeline. This was reported on the website of the U.S. Congress.
Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, and John Barrasso were the author of the bill. Among the proposed restrictions is the refusal to issue licenses for the export of goods or technologies. In addition, it is proposed to ban the entry into the United States, the freezing of assets under US jurisdiction and work with Federal funds and the US national debt. The initiative also provides for a ban on loans in excess of $ 10 million during the year.
As a punishment, it is proposed to expel employees of companies-violators from the country.
The fact that Washington is going to impose sanctions against the “Nord stream-2”, it became known on May 21. In response, the Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin has confidence in the completion of the pipeline.
“Nord stream-2” should connect Russia and Germany on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Its launch is scheduled for the end of 2019, but it is allowed to postpone the deadline because Denmark has not yet issued a permit for the construction of the gas pipeline, which is considered a threat to its own statehood.
