The US has imposed new sanctions against Syria

The United States on Wednesday imposed new sanctions against Syria, which affected, among other things, some military intelligence units of the Arab Republic and persons associated with them, the US Treasury Department said on its website.

In total, eight individuals, six of whom are Syrian citizens, have fallen under the new US restrictions. Almost all of them are employees of the country’s intelligence services. Two more people affected by the restrictions are citizens of Tajikistan and Turkey, respectively.

In addition, the US sanctions affected some institutions of the Syrian penitentiary system and several units of the Syrian military intelligence.
