The US has deported about 400 migrant children

In March, the administration adopted new rules that allow for the prompt removal of migrants at the border.

US immigration authorities have rapidly deported about 400 migrant children intercepted at the border with Mexico over the past two weeks.

Officials were guided by the new rules, which were filed as a measure to limit the spread of the coronavirus in the United States, according to government data obtained by Reuters.

The administration of President Donald Trump introduced new border crossing rules on March 21, abolishing a long-standing practice designed to protect children from traffickers and allow them to apply for asylum in the US immigration court.

Following the new rules, officials can more quickly deport people who are not following the standard immigration procedures.

According to the mentioned data and a Mexican government official who spoke on condition of anonymity, after the introduction of new procedures, American border guards expelled about 7 thousand migrants to Mexico. Of these, 377 were minors.
