A Chinese company that came under sanctions last year will be able to buy American products for another six weeks.
The Trump administration said that the United States will extend for 45 days the permit allowing American companies to do business with the Chinese company Huawei Technologies Co Ltd.
After the US government blacklisted Huawei in May last year, citing national security concerns, the US Department of Commerce has repeatedly approved such permits that allow the Chinese company to purchase certain American-made products. Explaining their actions, the US Department of Commerce pointed out that such measures are aimed at minimizing disruptions for customers, many of whom work in rural areas of the United States.
The decision was made during a discussion by the administration of Donald Trump about further tightening restrictions on the sale of American products to Huawei. In turn, the Chinese manufacturer has not yet commented on this decision by the US authorities. The current license expires on February 16.
