The US destroyer Ross arrived in the port of Batumi

As noted in the US Embassy in Georgia, the purpose of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries for peace and stability in the region.

“Our allies in Europe continue to play an important role in the security of the black sea region. I and the crew look forward to improving military compatibility in a dynamic environment and get acquainted with the rich history and culture of the region”, – quotes the captain of the ship Dave Coles, the press service of the US Embassy. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between Georgia and the United States for peace and stability in the region, the diplomatic representation added.

During the visit, the crew of the ship will see the sights, play a friendly football match with the Georgian coast guard, as well as play basketball with students of the Maritime Academy of Batumi, the Embassy said.

On April 25, the crew members of the ship will conduct joint exercises with Georgian colleagues. Then the ship will leave the territorial waters of Georgia.

This is the first visit of USS Ross destroyer to Georgia. The ship is equipped with Tomahawk-type guided cruise missiles. It can reflect ballistic missiles fired from enemy submarines.
