The US Congress is asking the White House to change the date of Zelensky’s visit

US President Joe Biden intends to receive his Ukrainian counterpart on August 30.

US congressmen have sent appeals to the White House with a request to change the date of the visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to Washington.

“We have sent letters to the President [Joe Biden], calling for this date to be changed so that members of Congress are here in Washington at one time. I hope that the president will consider this, ” Marcy Kaptur, a member of the US House of Representatives, says. She stressed that she “does not like the specified date of the visit at all.” The report notes that earlier the date of Zelensky’s visit was also criticized by Senator Ted Cruz.

On Wednesday, the press secretary of the head of the US administration, Jen Psaki, said that Biden will receive Zelensky at the White House on August 30. Zelensky said that he expects a meaningful and fruitful meeting with the US president, during which, as he hopes, the parties will be able to discuss, in particular, the situation in the Donbas. He also clarified that he expects to discuss “the threats that “Nord stream-2″ poses to Ukraine.”

Earlier, Kyiv stated that the visit of the Ukrainian president to the United States was planned “at the end of July,” as well as “at the beginning of August.”
