The US Congress introduced a resolution on “violation of human rights in Russia”

A resolution condemning “human rights violations in Russia” has been submitted to the US Congress, the press service of the house foreign Affairs Committee reported.

“The resolution calls on the Russian Federation to immediately release political prisoners and calls on the administration of (Donald) Trump to impose sanctions on those officials in the Russian government who are responsible for human rights violations,” the authors of the resolution – Committee Chairman, Democrat Eliot Engel and Committee member, Republican Michael McCaul – said in a statement.

The resolution accuses the Russian authorities of harassing journalists, the opposition, civil society, and supporters of religious freedoms. The Russian Foreign Ministry has rejected such criticism in the past.
