The US believes that a pro-Iranian group is behind the shelling of a military base in Iraq

According to the newspaper, the group “Kataib Hezbollah” could be involved in the shelling.

The United States believes that the Kataib Hezbollah group may be involved in the shelling of the Ain al-Assad base in Iraq, used by the American side. This was reported on Thursday by the newspaper Politico, citing two military sources.

“The US and Iraqi authorities believe that the pro-Iranian group is responsible for the shelling of the Iraqi base of Ain al-Asad, where American soldiers are located. Although the investigation is ongoing, the authorities believe that the Kataib Hezbollah group or an associated group is involved in this,”

the newspaper notes.

According to earlier information, at least 10 rockets landed in the area of the Ain al-Asad airbase located in the Iraqi province of Anbar on Wednesday.

At the beginning of last year, Iran launched a missile attack on the base. This happened after the commander of the special forces “Al-Quds” of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) was killed in a US drone attack near the Baghdad airport on January 3) Qasem Suleimani and deputy commander of the Iraqi Shiite militia (Al-Hashd al-Shaabi) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
