The US began to prepare the army to wage war underground

The Pentagon plans to implement a large-scale project “Digger” to conduct operations on the territory of the probable enemy using tactical tunnels, said the Agency for advanced development of the US Department of defense (DARPA).

According to experts, the first phase of the project is expected to spend eleven million dollars. Such tactics should allow to use the underground manholes to supply troops with food and ammunition, as well as for search and rescue operations.

Experts note that the Pentagon has the technology and means to detect and destroy tunnels. However, the American army had no specialized equipment and experience of laying of the catacombs. “None of the military specialties does not provide training in the construction of tactical tunnels, and there are no technologies or equipment that would allow to lay and use tunnels,” – summarize experts DARPA.

Recall that at the end of June 2018, a specialized publication announced the Pentagon’s plans to allocate $ 572 million for training, purchase of communications equipment and military equipment for combat operations in tunnels. In this regard, the Ministry of defense should acquire assault – armored shields, night vision goggles, thermal imaging equipment, silent weapons, as well as breathing apparatus to protect against the effects of smoke, hydrogen sulfide, methane and natural gas.

For the war in underground conditions is expected to use the training base of Marines in Fort Benning in the state of Georgia. Instructors will pay close attention to the use of underground utilities, including Sewerage and metro, in the territory of the probable enemy.

Meanwhile, the chief of staff of the US air force, General David Goldfein announced the development of a new concept of warfare in response to the “threat of conflict with China, Russia and other opponents.” According to him, “the soldiers secretly penetrate the gaps in the defense of the enemy, as through holes in Swiss cheese.” The project will need to allocate about 135 billion dollars.
