The US announced a reward for information about the leader of the Iraqi Hezbollah

The US has announced a $10 million reward for information about the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement in Iraq, Mohammad Kawtharani the state Department said in a statement.

The award is offered for “information about the activities, connections and acquaintances “of Kawtharani who is described as a “high-ranking military commander” of the movement in Iraq. The US considers Hezbollah a terrorist organization.”

“Mohammad Kawtharani is a high-ranking leader of Hezbollah forces in Iraq, and he took over part of the political coordination of Iran-linked paramilitary groups that Qasem Suleimani previously organized,” the report said. The US killed Iranian General Suleimani in January in Baghdad during a special operation.

According to the state Department, Kawtharani coordinates groups that the US accuses of suppressing protests, attacking American diplomatic missions and organized crime. Also, Kawtharani promoting the interests of Hezbollah in Iraq, including the support of local Shiite groups.

Kawtharani already appears in the list of US sanctions in 2013. The United States in 2019 announced a $ 10 million reward for information that could help disrupt Hezbollah’s funding.
