The US and Russia discussed space security issues for the first time in 7 years

Both delegations expressed their interest in continuing such discussions and improving the dialogue.

Employees of the ministries of defense and energy, as well as representatives of the US national security Council, met with Russian officials as part of the dialogue on strategic and space security. This is stated in the message of the state Department.

Over more than 13 hours of discussion, senior American civil and military experts in the field of space security participated in the first such dialogue with Moscow in seven years. At this meeting, the parties exchanged views on existing and future space threats, policies, strategies, and doctrine. They discussed the plan aimed at promoting safe, professional, and sustainable activities in space.

Both delegations expressed their interest in continuing such discussions and improving the dialogue – for example, establishing operational communication on space-related issues. According to the State Department, this will help reduce the risks of misunderstandings and prevent the occurrence of incidents related to space.
