The UN is closely monitoring the situation in Belarus

Antonio Guterres believes that violence by the authorities of the Republic is not the answer.

The official representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, said that the UN is closely monitoring the situation in Belarus.

“We are very well aware of the demonstrations and events that are taking place in this country. The Secretary-General believes that people’s discontent should be heard and that repression is not the answer.”

According to Dujarric, the UN Secretary-General “closely follows the developments in the country and emphasizes the importance of allowing all Belarusians to exercise their civil and political rights. This includes the peaceful expression of their views in accordance with the law.”

The UN noted that official Minsk should show restraint in response to the demonstrations.

“Allegations of torture and other ill-treatment of detainees must be thoroughly investigated.” – said the official representative of Antonio Guterres. – “The Secretary-General calls on all Belarusians to solve the problems that arose after the elections through dialogue and preserve peace in the country.”
