The U.S. Secretary of State commented on the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan

When deciding to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, the United States knew that the Taliban was in the strongest position in the last 20 years, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

“We knew from the very beginning that the Taliban* is in the strongest position,” Blinken said in an interview with CNN.

According to him, if the United States had remained in Afghanistan, he would have had to explain on the air “why we are sending new forces there.”

According to Blinken, the armed forces of Afghanistan were unable to protect the country, and this “happened faster than we predicted.”

The U.S. Secretary of State stressed that Washington did not ask the Taliban for anything* in the context of the reduction of diplomats in Kabul, but warned of the consequences if there is a security threat to personnel.
