The United States and Germany will take measures against the “Nord stream-2” gas pipeline if Russia uses it as a weapon, American diplomat Kurt Volker said.
Volker noted that the United States is currently trying to resist the implementation of the project, but so far this struggle is limited to words.
He also added that the agreement between Washington and Berlin, which allows the completion of the gas pipeline without additional sanctions against its builders, is explained by financial benefits.
“We need to speak from the point of view of gas, that is, from the point of view of security, since Russia is trying to influence Europe and this threatens Ukraine,” Volker says.
Thus, if Moscow starts using gas as a weapon, it faces serious consequences, the diplomat said.
