The U.S. Department of State was subjected to a hacker attack

The U.S. Department of State was subjected to a cyber-attack; it happened, presumably, a couple of weeks ago, Fox News correspondent Jackie Heinrich reported on Saturday.

“The Department of State was subjected to a cyber-attack,” Heinrich wrote on Twitter, specifying that, presumably, this happened “a couple of weeks ago.”

According to Heinrich, the cyber command of the U.S. Department of Defense has sent a notification about a possible serious hacking. At the same time, it is clarified that the scale of the cyber-attack, as well as the scale of the investigation against the alleged attackers, “remain unclear.” It is also unknown what measures were taken to mitigate the consequences of the attack and the “current risks to operations.”

An informed source said that the current mission of the Department of State to evacuate Americans and Afghan refugees from Afghanistan “was not affected,” the journalist said.

“For security reasons, we cannot discuss the nature or extent of any alleged cyber security incidents at this time,” said a U.S. Department of State spokesman, quoted by Heinrich.
