The annual carnival opened in Venice, Italy. Traditionally, it begins with a holiday on the water. The theme of 2020 was the slogan “Game, love and madness.” As noted by its new artistic director Massimo Quecchetto, it is in these three words that the tradition of the holiday, dating back to the IX century, is concluded.
Dozens of gondolas sailed through the city’s picturesque canals. Acrobats and artists demonstrated their skills.
Carnivals in Italian Venice began to be held in the X century. After 800 years, these celebrations were canceled. The tradition was revived only 40 years ago.
Every year, more than 500 thousand tourists come to the carnival from all over the world. The main events are planned for the coming weekend. They will be dedicated to Valentine’s Day.
Carnival in Venice will be held on February 25-it is planned to hold about one and a half hundred balls, concerts and performances with the participation of more than three hundred artists. Events will be held in the historic island part of the city, as well as in the mainland districts of Marghera and Mestre.
As specified by the organizers of the holiday, the total budget was 2 million euros, received mainly from sponsors.
