The US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo during his visit to Russia intends to discuss issues on which countries could cooperate. The politician said this in an interview with CNBC.
According to Pompeo, President Donald Trump instructed him to discuss a wide range of issues with the Russian side. There are many areas in which Moscow and Washington can find common interests. At the same time, the two countries have different views on some things, and the US will protect its interests, the Secretary of state said.
Pompeo added that he collaborated with Russia in the fight against terrorism when he worked as Director of the CIA, and this interaction helped to save the lives of Americans and Russians.
On the question of what areas the US and Russia could work together, Pompeo called Syria and Afghanistan. The Secretary of state added that he had a “good dialogue” with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Venezuela, and during his trip to Russia, he also intends to discuss the situation in the Latin American country.
Earlier it was reported that the visit of Pompeo will be held on 13-14 May.
