The Taliban staged an explosion at a military base in Afghanistan

Taliban militants attacked an army base in western Afghanistan, killing at least 18 soldiers and injuring ten others, local sources told.

The Taliban reportedly entered a military base in Bala Baluk district in Farah Province on Monday night through a specially dug tunnel.

The governor of the province, Taj Mohammad Jahid, confirmed to local media that the militants who broke through the tunnel had set off an explosion at the base. He did not give an exact death toll. In total, there was about 30 military personnel on the base.

Currently, government forces in Afghanistan are facing off against the Taliban, who have seized significant territories in rural areas and launched an offensive on major cities.
