The Syrian Army has suffered serious losses after a surprise attack by ISIS

At least 12 Syrian soldiers were killed and four more were taken prisoner last Monday in a surprise attack carried out by the militants of the terrorist group Daesh (IS) in the province of Homs. This is reported today, June 22, by the news portal The New Arab (headquarters in London).

According to the information, the ISIS attack took place in the Wadi al-Abyad area, near the city of Tadmor (Palmyra).

Over the past week, the Syrian army, with Russian air support, has stepped up operations against ISIS in the central and eastern regions of the Arab Republic. According to The New Arab, during this time, 23 vehicles and more than 50 terrorist targets were destroyed in the provinces of Homs, Hama, and Raqqa. More than 80 Islamist militants were killed and wounded.

The ground part of the operation against ISIS is carried out by the forces of the 25th Division of the Syrian Armed Forces, led by the legendary General Suhail al-Hassan. More than 1,500 army Special Forces soldiers are concentrated in the Khanasir Atria area to the east of Hama province. ISIS fighters are being squeezed out of numerous underground shelters in the vast desert area of Al-Badia.
