The US is confident that rivalry with China will not lead to large-scale conflict. Washington is ready to work with Beijing on issues of mutual interest, US Assistant Secretary of State David Stilwell said.
“Our rivalry with the people’s Republic of China will not lead to a conflict. In fact, through competition, we are restoring balance and stability in areas where the US previously allowed Beijing to escalate the imbalance to the detriment of everyone else,” he said at a hearing before the Foreign Affairs Committee.
According to him, Washington will also seek cooperation with Beijing in areas where interests coincide, including solving problems related to inequality in trade relations, issues around the denuclearization of the DPRK, and stopping the illegal traffic of fentanyl to the United States produced in China or elsewhere using Chinese precursors.
