The speaker of the Slovak Parliament opposed the presence of the US troops in the country

The Chairman of the Slovak Parliament, the leader member of the coalition government of the Republic of the Slovak national party Andrej Danko said about the inadmissibility of accommodation in the country by the US military personnel. According to him, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčák is in the United States, where a Treaty on Slovak-American cooperation in the field of defense is being prepared.

“We will insist that the new Treaty on cooperation with the United States in the field of defense was not a word about the temporary or permanent presence in the Republic of the American armed forces,” – said Danko.

It should be noted that Slovakia has been a member of NATO since 2004. Like other member countries of the Alliance, Slovakia is connected with the United States by bilateral agreements on cooperation in the field of defense. Bratislava rejects the option of strengthening national security through the establishment of foreign military bases.

We will remind, the President of the United States advocates for increased spending of the countries-members of NATO. In 2014, the countries of the Alliance agreed to allocate “at least” 2% of GDP, but so far only six countries have fulfilled this obligation, including the United States, Great Britain, Estonia and Poland.
