The US Senate has included additional sanctions against “Nord stream-2” in the draft national defense budget, Republican Congressman Steve Womack said on Tuesday.
Womack said that the Russian authorities want to use the project as a tool of coercion, and its goal is to increase the dependence of Poland and Ukraine on Russian gas. “I am proud to co-sponsor the sanctions aimed at stopping its construction and applaud the Senate for including this priority in the draft national defense budget,” he wrote on Twitter.
The Republican-controlled Senate and the democratic-controlled House of Representatives present their defense budget options. Then they are brought together by a conciliation Commission, after which both chambers vote for the final version and it goes to the President for signature.
