The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Kingdom Adel al-Jubeir said that it is impossible to allow the return of terrorists to Syria.
Saudi Arabia is in talks with the United States on how to prevent the return of militants of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (banned in Russia) in Syria after the US military will leave the country. This was announced by the Minister of state for foreign Affairs of the Kingdom Adel al-Jubeir in an interview with CBS, aired on Sunday.
He was asked whether Saudi Arabia was concerned that after the withdrawal of the US troops from Syria, the IS would be able to restore its positions in the region. “I am sure that we defeated the IS in Iraq and will soon defeat it in Syria <...> We are holding discussions with the United States on how to prevent the IS from returning to Syria, as well as how not to lose what we have won from the militants in the North-East of Syria,” he said. “We will make sure that they do not return,” the state Minister added.
The US President Donald Trump announced the decision to begin the withdrawal of troops from Syria on December 19, explaining this victory over the IS. Two thousand American soldiers must leave the country within 60-100 days. At the same time, the Secretary of state Michael Pompeo said on January 10 that the US withdrawal from Syria does not mean curtailing efforts in the fight against ISIS.
