The Pentagon said that it is closely monitoring the movements of Iranian ships in the Atlantic

Defense Department spokesman John Kirby declined to comment further on the topic, including on the possible destination of the Iranian ships.

The United States is closely monitoring the movements of two Iranian ships in the Atlantic. This was stated on Friday by the press secretary of the US Defense Department, John Kirby, at a regular briefing for journalists.

“We are, of course, closely monitoring their movements,” he said. Kirby declined to comment further on the topic, including on the possible destination of the Iranian ships. On May 29, Politico reported that US officials do not know the exact destination of the two Iranian ships, but believe they may eventually be heading to Venezuela. According to the sources, Iran’s intention to send the ships towards the Western Hemisphere remains a mystery, as well as their cargo. The newspaper added that high-ranking officials in the Venezuelan government had been warned that accepting Iranian ships would be a mistake. At the same time, the American intelligence community believes that the destination of the Iranian ships may change.
