The Pentagon plans to increase the power of the Navy radically

The Pentagon plans to increase the number of naval vessels to 530, Defense News reports, citing Department documents.

According to the “Study on the naval forces of the future,” which refers to the publication, the US Navy should become lighter, with more warships and fewer aircraft carriers. The Navy will have new unmanned ships, submarines, and an expanded logistics network.

Defense Minister Mark Esper hinted at the enlargement of the fleet earlier but called smaller numbers.

“This will be a balanced force consisting of more than 350 ships — manned and unmanned — which will be built in the appropriate time and budget,” Defense News quoted him as saying.

Esper added that it is necessary to build such ships that will be controlled by a person but can also be completely autonomous, depending on combat operations.
