The Pentagon announced the testing of prototypes of a hypersonic cruise missile

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency of the US Department of Defense (DARPA) reported on the successful completion of one of the stages of testing two prototypes of the hypersonic cruise missile Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC).

“DARPA and the US air force today announced the successful completion of tests of two versions of the hypersonic air-jet weapon (HAWC) concept, during which the prototypes were fixed to the fuselage of the carrier aircraft, and (the creators) are ready to begin the first tests in free flight conditions within a calendar year,” the office said in a statement.

The program, known as HAWC, creates a hypersonic air-launched missile.

Several hypersonic missiles are currently being developed in the United States. The Pentagon has previously acknowledged that it is lagging behind Russia and China in this area.
