The only one in the world: the boy was born with one lung and one kidney, as well as a heart on the right side

The parents called the young Frankie Shopland “half a man” because of its unique features in the anatomical structure. According to The Daily Mail, the boy was born with one lung and one kidney, as well as a heart on the right side.

Deviations in development were identified at the stage of intrauterine development, but the parents abandoned the idea to terminate the pregnancy artificially. The baby was born eight weeks ahead of schedule, and over the years spent in the hospital for more than 800 days.

Frankie underwent surgery to install an artificial lung, however, despite this, cannot drink water and food because of breathing problems. The boy receives nutrients necessary for vital activity by means of a special system, which is attached directly to the stomach.

Despite the lack of opportunities for transplantation of donor organs, parents are full of optimism and do not lose heart. “Anatomically, he is “half a man”, but for us – one person” – they say.

At birth, the boy’s respiratory tract was too narrow, which created additional health problems. This defect was removed surgically, however, due to prolonged lung ventilation, which affected his vocal cords, he cannot talk.

Doctors are in no hurry to make predictions, because such cases in medicine have not been identified and, therefore, this condition is not described in the medical literature. However, the baby’s parents are determined and plan to conduct an independent investigation. They hope that the identification of similar cases will help to organize the proper treatment of their son.
