Joe Biden, who was elected, according to preliminary data, the President of the United States, has decided on a candidate for the post of Secretary of state, the Hill reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions.
The candidate will be announced next week, the newspaper reports.
“It is unclear who will be Biden’s nominee, but a former Obama administration official confirmed to the Hill that Tony Blinken, a veteran diplomat and longtime Biden ally, is considered the favorite for the post,” the Hill writes.
Blinken was the former first Deputy Secretary of state. Also named, as potential candidates for Secretary of State were senators Chris Coons and Chris Murphy, former first Deputy Secretary of state and Ambassador to Russia William Burns, and former national security adviser to President Barack Obama Susan Rice.
