The Elysee Palace is secretly preparing for a referendum to which it plans to submit a wide range of issues related with the ongoing protests of “yellow vests “in France. About it with reference to high-ranking sources writes the edition Le Journal du Dimanche.
According to the interlocutor of the edition, the referendum scheduled to be held on May 26, the day of the elections to the European Parliament. He specified that the probability of holding a referendum is very high.
The Ministry of the interior is already consulting with printers and paper suppliers in order to prepare the necessary materials and hold a tender for their printing as soon as the administration of President Emmanuel Macron gives the green light.
Protests in France, which often degenerated into riots that have been ongoing since November of 2018. On January 2019, Macron urged the country’s citizens to participate in the national debate and offered to discuss, in particular, the socio-economic problems of the state. “There are no taboo topics for me. We will not agree on everything that is normal for democracy. But, at least, we will show that there are people who are not afraid to talk, discuss and argue,” the President said then.
Macron also mentioned the topics he would like to discuss during the debate. These are taxation and public spending, the organization of public services, environmental reform, and democracy issues.
The big national debate on France will be held on March 9 and 16.
