Earlier, two former subordinates of Governor Andrew Cuomo came forward with an allegation that he sexually harassed them.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio believes that the governor of the same name, Andrew Cuomo, should resign if the investigation results confirm the allegations made against him. The mayor expressed this opinion on Monday on CNN.
“I can’t imagine how anyone can be in power in the role of governor, how he can enjoy the trust of the people if he deliberately hid the deaths of thousands of our elderly people<…>,” de Blasio said in response to a corresponding question from the host. “Especially if he sexually harassed women under his command.” These are facts that speak of your unfitness.” When asked whether Cuomo would have to resign if the allegations were confirmed, the mayor of New York said: “Of course.”
Earlier, two former Cuomo subordinates – Charlotte Bennett and Lindsey Boylan – came forward with allegations that he sexually harassed them. Bennett made the allegations against Cuomo on Saturday, Boylan in December 2020. The governor denies this in both cases. Also, another woman, who was not on the staff of the governor’s office, on Monday accused him of inappropriate behavior.
This is not the first scandal in recent months involving the governor of New York. Earlier, the US federal authorities and the prosecutor’s office of the New York district of Brooklyn opened an investigation into the Cuomo administration, suspected of concealing the true number of deaths from the effects of infection with the new coronavirus in nursing homes in the state in the spring and summer of last year.
