The Lord of the Rings first season will cost almost half a billion dollars

Film company Amazon Studios plans to spend about $ 450 million on producing the first season of The Lord of the Rings.

According to journalists, information about the project’s budget was made public under the New Zealand Government’s Official Information Act, where the filming process will occur. Based on the documents, the series is eligible for a government grant. The New Zealand government expects the project’s filming will attract tourists and help create hundreds of jobs for residents.

“It’s fantastic, it’s true. It will be the most expensive television series ever created, ” said Stuart Nash, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism of New Zealand.

It was also reported that Amazon Studios plans to film five seasons of the project and a spin-off. The film company has not yet commented on this information.

Note that previously one of the most popular and expensive TV series in the world was considered “Game of Thrones”, the development of which took several times less: one season HBO cost about $ 100 million.

The action of The Lord of the Rings will unfold in Middle-earth before the beginning of the story told in the novel The Fellowship of the Ring. The project will be executive produced by Lindsay Webber, Bruce Richmond, Yuzhine Kelly, Sharon Tal Aguado, and the main roles will be played by Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi and other artists.
