The impeachment failed: Donald Trump remains in the post of President of the United States

The US Senate voted against removing Donald Trump from the post of President. Trump has been cleared of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Voting took place in two stages. According to CNN, first, senators voted to find President Trump not guilty under the first article of impeachment-abuse of power. The vote was divided 52 to 48. The only Republican who voted against trump was Senator Mitt Romney.

He became the first Senator in US history to vote against a President who represents the same party.

Under the second article of impeachment-obstruction of Congress – 53 senators out of 100 considered that trump is not guilty.

At least 67 senators had to vote against Trump for the impeachment to take place. Recall that the Republicans in the upper house of Congress have a majority, and therefore, as experts pointed out, the probability of impeachment was very unlikely.

Trump himself called the impeachment a “suicide of the Democratic Party” and a “witch hunt.” He claimed that this process is an attempt by Democrats to count for Hillary Clinton’s defeat in the 2016 presidential election.

The House of Representatives of the United States Congress began impeachment proceedings trump on September 25. The reason was his phone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky: members of the Democratic Party wanted to prove that the US resident pressured his Ukrainian counterpart to stimulate the investigation of the corruption case against Joe Biden’s son. At the same time, Biden is considered the most promising opponent of trump in the elections in 2020.

After the impeachment vote, Trump wrote on Twitter that he intended to make a public statement.
