Kristalina Georgieva stressed that other countries also need help.
The Head of the International Monetary Fund on Sunday called for the speedy and effective implementation of the new G20 framework program to help the world’s poorest countries ease their permanent debt burden while noting that other countries also need help.
“It is extremely important to put this framework into effect quickly and effectively,” IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said after addressing the G20 leaders.
“In the long term, we should also help countries that are not covered by this framework to reduce debt vulnerabilities to increase the resilience of their economies,” she added.
The debt settlement framework approved by the G20 leaders applies to 73 countries that can expect to freeze official payments to temporarily pay off debt.
