The date of the UK’s exit from the European Union can be postponed until the beginning of July. This was stated by the head of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani in an interview published on Saturday in the Newspapers of the media group Funke.
“I am convinced that the release date can be postponed for a maximum of several weeks — from the end of March to the beginning of July as a last resort. Then the European Parliament of the new convocation begins to act”, he said.
According to him, the decision on it supposed to be made next week.
“In any case, the British will have to give a reason to postpone, for example, holding the elections or a new referendum. They decided to leave the EU, this is their problem, not ours,” said Tajani. According to him, the European side could slightly specify the statement on “Brexit”, but does not intend to make any significant changes.
Earlier, we will remind, it was reported that Prime Minister Theresa May presented to Parliament scenarios around the country’s withdrawal from the European Union. One of these may result in a postponement of the release date.
Voting in Parliament on a new version of the agreement with the EU on the terms of exit should pass 12 March.
