The group of NATO ships entered the Black sea

In the Black sea came the ships of naval forces of Canada, Spain, the Netherlands.

The group, composed of several NATO ships, entered the black sea. It is reported by the portal Bosphorus Naval News on Twitter.

The waters of the Black sea, in particular, included two ships from the second permanent NATO naval group (SNMG2) — the frigate of the Royal Canadian Navy “Toronto” and the frigate of the Spanish Navy “Santa Maria”. Also in the Black sea entered the destroyer of the Dutch Navy “Evertsen”. These ships are accompanied by the Turkish frigate “Gelibolu”.

This is not the first visit of NATO ships to the Black sea in the last few months. At the end of February in its waters was an American destroyer “Donald cook” with a group of support. After the ships visited Odessa, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called the visit “a vivid demonstration of cooperation between Kiev and Washington”.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in February that the Alliance intends to increase its presence in the Black sea. He noted that NATO’s concern increased “illegal detention of Ukrainian sailors” in November 2018 — Russia accused them of illegal border crossing.

In Moscow, the incident is considered a provocation, in Kiev — an act of aggression. The US, Australia and the EU have imposed personal sanctions against several Russians for the detention of Ukrainian sailors.
