The former Trump’s chief of staff Paul Manafort was sentenced to almost four years in prison

In the US, the court sentenced to three years and 11 months in prison the former head of the election headquarters of Donald Trump Paul Manafort, who was found guilty of tax evasion and fraud in the banking sector, the Associated Press reports.

The court imposed a much milder sentence than recommended by prosecutors and the usual for such charges from 19 to 24 years, which, according to American media, could be for 70-year-old Manafort life term.

Expected that Manafort will be sentenced on March 13 on charges of conspiracy and attempts to influence witnesses. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
The case against Manafort appeared in the course of the investigation about intervention of Russia in election of the President of the United States, but is not directly associated with him. Accusations against Manafort relate to his work on the former authorities of Ukraine — in particular, it is about illegal lobbying and an attempt to hide the income received from political counseling.
