FBI Director Christopher Wray has ordered an internal review of the investigation into Michael Flynn, former national security adviser to us President Donald Trump. The results of the FBI investigation led to the prosecution of Flynn.
Ray decided to evaluate whether the FBI agents had violated legal procedures and whether the Bureau’s current rules needed to be changed. Two weeks ago, the US Department of Justice decided to withdraw support for criminal charges against Flynn.
Michael Flynn, who was an adviser to Trump during the election campaign, pleaded guilty in court in 2017 to making false statements to the FBI regarding his contacts with the Russian Ambassador.
Trump and his allies have been extremely negative about the FBI’s investigation of Russian interference in the election. Ray has previously stated that he does not believe that the FBI conducted this investigation without justification.
Democrats and some former Federal prosecutors accuse US Attorney General William Barr of politicizing the criminal justice system for the benefit of former Trump employees.
