The European Parliament does not recognize Lukashenko as the legitimate President of Belarus

The European Parliament does not recognize the results of the presidential elections in Belarus. It does not consider Alexander Lukashenko a legitimate President, according to the agreed text of the relevant resolution following the EP plenary session.

“We emphasize that the European Parliament, in accordance with the position of the European Council, rejects the results of the so-called presidential elections in Belarus on August 9, given that they were held with blatant violations of all internationally recognized norms, and does not recognize Alexander Lukashenko as the President of Belarus,” the document says.

MEPs at the September 14-17 plenary session discussed the situation in Belarus, the situation with Alexey Navalny, and relations with Russia and the case in the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey, the launch of the European mechanism for the economic recovery of the EU, and other issues.
